The Saint Hyacinth Academic Decathlon Team competes in the California Catholic Schools Academic Junior High Decathlon (or AJHD). The competition strives to bring forth the students academic talents and celebrate them in the context of spirit-filled competition. In the decathlon team we strive to promote academic excellence, collaborative spirit , cooperative learning skills, and logical and higher order thinking. This competition is for students in grades 6-8. There are ten events. Two are collaborative team efforts – a logic quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a super quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes. The remaining eight events test individual knowledge of the Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and Music). The topic content changes every year. Awards are given for individual and team performance. We have won the overall competition five times in the last nine years. Many students place in the top six for the individual events every year. Several alumni are on the local high school decathlon teams.

Saint Hyacinth's Decathlon Team meet every Thursday and a few Saturdays in February. It is open to all 6th - 8th grade providing they meet the criteria.

    We meet from 3:15 – 5:00 October

    3:15 – 5:30 November and December

    3:15 – 6:00 January and February
